     Disease mapping of non-stationary, binomial, geostatistical data
     using random tesselations      

We present a model to analyze non-gaussian geostatistical data by 
averaging piecewise stationary spatial processes defined over the space of 
interest. The space-separation into the piecewise stationary processes is 
defined by a random Voronoi tesselation. Estimation is employed for a 
fully Bayesian hierarchical model via reversible jump Markov chain Monte 
Carlo. It is shown, that this framework is not only more general than the 
stationary model, but also has superior numerical properties.

We apply this methodology to describe variation in malaria endemicity in 
Mali. Bayesian kriging was employed to produce a smooth map of malaria 
risk, adjusted for environmental and climatic covariates. This map
contributes to more effective planning of interventions against malaria.
