   Teaching Basic Statistics with R: 
   Using and Extending the Rcmdr Graphical User Interface

   John Fox, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

   The Rcmdr package provides a cross-platform basic-statistics
   graphical user interface (GUI) to R, covering topics
   conventionally taught in introductory and intermediate-level
   statistics courses through generalized linear models. The Rcmdr
   interface is designed to be easily extended by adding menus,
   menu items, and dialog boxes. This talk will provide a brief
   introduction to and demonstration of the Rcmdr GUI, along with an
   explanation of how the GUI can be extended.
