Design and statistical analysis for cancer clinical trials, with focus on data mining of genomics-clinical data
A bioinformatician/biostatistician position is available at the SAKK Statistics Unit in Bern (Leader: Dr. Shu-Fang HSU SCHMITZ), operatively shared with the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB), University of Lausanne (Leader: Dr. Mauro Delorenzi) for a specific project
Requirements:
* A degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or related quantitative sciences
* Familiarity with the UNIX computer system and knowledge of programming languages such as R, Perl, C/C++
* Experience in SAS is a plus
* Experience in statistical analysis of large datasets in the field of biomedicine is highly desirable
* Skills in project management will be important
* Experience in design and analysis of phase I-III clinical trials is a plus
* Knowledge of biomedical sciences is a plus
* Good oral and written English level is essential, knowledge of French and German is a plus
Job Description:
1. A specific project, based in Lausanne and Bern, about 3-5 years
* Conducting bioinformatics and statistical data management and goal-oriented analyses with modern genomics technologies
* Performing analyses as specified in the plan of statistical analyses, including descriptive statistics, univariate and multivariate analyses, like logistic regression, Cox regression and mixed models
* Performing data mining with high throughput genomics data for discovery and validation of clinically relevant biomarkers
* Working under supervision in a team with specialists from different fields, including oncologists, pathologists, bioinformaticians and biostatisticians
* Working language at all levels is English
* Writing regular reports and participating in collaborative research
* Publication of results
2. Additional projects, based in Bern
* Statistical support for clinical trials
* Ensure appropriate statistical planning, analysis and reporting of clinical studies and associated research projects (e.g. translational research, quality of life, outcome research, health economy, etc.)
* Manage publication of study results
* Represent the Statistics Unit in the Trial Teams and attend meetings with physicians to discuss project requirements
* Initiate and perform methodological research in medical statistics when appropriate and needed
* Working languages are English and German (might be in some meetings)
We offer:
* Starting date in early 2008
* Initial work contract is linked to a specific translational research project connected to a clinical trial for the treatment of colon cancer. This project will last about 3-5 years.
* Work location in offices of the SAKK in Bern and of the SIB in Lausanne
