Postdoctoral Position at the
Institute of Mathematical Statistics and Actuarial Science
University of Bern

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position (80-100%) in a
research project entitled

    "Regularisation and Qualitative Assumptions
     in Multivariate Density Estimation".

This research project is part of a Swiss-German Bilateral Research Unit on

    "Statistical Regularisation and Qualitative Constraints
      - Inference, Algorithms, Asymptotics and Applications"

with scientists from Goettingen, Mannheim, Bern and ETH Zuerich. It is
supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) and the German
Science Foundation (DFG) and scheduled for three years, starting in
April 2008, with the option of an extension for another three years.

Keywords for the particular project are log-concave densities, binned
and censored data, multivariate densities, non- and semiparametric
regression under shape-constraints. The applicant should have a strong
background in mathematical statistics. Basic knowledge or at least
interest in optimization and algorithms are appreciated, too. The
project entails theoretical and methodological work as well as
applications to econometric and astrophysical data, the latter in
cooperation with other members of the research unit and external partners.

The starting date is April 1, 2008, or later in 2008. Please send your
application (including names and addresses of one or two academic
referees) or direct further inquiries to
