Exploratory Longitudinal Data Analysis
Di Cook, Iowa State University}
Longitudinal data is collected by measuring the same individual
multiple times. The measurements for each individual may be collected
at different times, and for a differing number of time points. In
contrast to cross-sectional studies, longitudinal data provides the
opportunity to study individual trends as well as average trends, and
this is a most interesting challenge for statistical analysis.
This talk will follow up on the Colloquium talk. We'll explain
exploratory approach to longitudinal data analysis, and how this
differs, conceptually, from a purely modelling approach. Successful
exploration is dependent on setting up the data structures that allow
data tables to be linked for exploring raw data, fitted values, and
model diagnostics, and how the calculations are linked to the
graphics. We'll explain how this is done using R, rggobi and
GGobi. There are some curious observations about the models for the
workforce experience data, to look forward to.
