Dear Colleagues and Friends,

due to several requests to postpone the deadline for abstract submission due to Easter holidays, we 
have decided to do so. Therefore, the *new and final deadline for abstract submission is the 30th 
of April 2012*. Bellow you can find a short description of the progress in the organization. Full

The first Young Business and Industrial Statisticians (y-BIS) meeting  will be held at Faculty of
Sciences and Technology, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal, from July 23–26, 2012
(http://www.ybis-jspe.com/). This conference will be jointly with the  first meeting of the Young
Portuguese Statisticians of the Portuguese  Statistical Society (jSPE). We invite undergraduates,
PhD candidates,  post-docs, assistant professors, and anyone studying or working in  statistics to
participate at this meeting.

The session topics include but are not limited to the following areas: Business and Industrial
Statistics; Applied Statistics; Computational and Graphical Statistics; Econometrics;
Biostatistics; Environmental Statistics and Environmetrics; Bayesian Statistics; Extreme Value
Statistics; Multivariate Statistics; Mathematical Statistics; Spatial Statistics; Time Series
Analysis; Stochastic Processes; Actuarial Sciences; Probability Theory; Official Statistics; Survey
Statistics; Statistical Education.

TWO SPECIAL ISSUES of International Scientific Journals are being planned for papers presented at
the Joint Meeting of y-BIS and jSPE:

   * RevStat--Statistical Journal (Impact Factor 2010: 0.733)
   * Communications in Statistics - Simulation and Computation (Taylor & Francis, IF 2010: 0.343)

There will be THREE AWARDS to which Speakers in Invited Paper Sessions, Contributed Paper Sessions,
and Contributed Posters, can apply:

   * Best yBIS–jSPE Paper Award (papers related to business and industry);
   * Best jSPE–yBIS Paper Award (papers related to general methodology and applications);
   * Best yBIS–jSPE Poster Award
