PhD Position in Spatial Statistics
We invite applications for a PhD position in a project entitled
“Multivariate Modeling of Large Non-stationary Spatial and
Spatio-temporal Climate Fields”. The objective of this project is the
assessment of the inherent uncertainty of global climate change
projections based on model output obtained from about twenty different
state-of-the-art GCMs using advanced and specifically tailored
statistical methodologies.
The position is within the Applied Statistics group at the Institute of
Mathematics which addresses relevant problems in the environmental
and biological sciences that involve a quantitative analysis of large

Upon start, applicants must have a completed masters degree in
statistics, mathematics or any related science field with a certain
degree of specialization in statistics. Applicants must be able to
pursue theoretical statistical modeling as well as data-oriented
computational research. Literacy in programming languages like the open
source software R is necessary. A good standard of written and spoken
English is required, knowledge of German would be an important asset.
