Statistical consultancy at the Research Center for Statistics: 
achievements and opportunities

ABSTRACT:
Since 2014, a statistical consultancy service is active in the Research 
Center for Statistics (RCS), born from a pedagogical project that aimed 
at constructing a practical course in the Master of Statistics (MoS) at 
the GSEM. Today, the service aims at creating bridges between 
fundamental research and RCS, helping researchers in other fields, 
allowing MoS students to have a professional experience, and fulfilling 
the mission of ”Service "à la Cité” of the RCS. During this 
presentation, some achievements of this project and student involvement 
will be shown through two consultation cases: sample size calculation 
for a multi-centers clinical trial, and Moran’s index simulation. An 
ongoing collaboration with the rectorship regarding the 3R improvement 
in life science research will also be presented. If time permits, a 
solved case with the Financial Service of the City of Geneva will also 
be presented. As a conclusion, problems met by the current service 
organization and propositions of future improvements will be presented.
