[Statlist] NEWS: 2024 Gordon Bell Prize for Climate Modelling

SSS member Marc Genton (EPFL Stat PhD 1996) and his team of researchers at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia, along with other partner institutions, have been awarded the 2024 Gordon Bell Prize for Climate Modelling<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/awards.acm.org/bell-climate__;!!Nmw4Hv0!0A22aUYZwkgC27dnCIAtG_wtYU-eDR7K-E_GgXI3MlAeyqJP2ixlA-BLoHbjwG4XNjrnHqvkKPx-jrvfbTuvnnhvAh47y2mNFYaN$>.

The team used the Frontier supercomputer (and 4 more, including Alps supercomputer in Switzerland) to develop an exascale climate emulator (space-time stochastic model that mimics climate  simulations) with radically enhanced resolution but without the computational expense and data storage requirements of state-of-the-art climate models.
