ABSTRACT:
Events unfolding in two dimensions are described, and formal definitions of encounters and interactions proposed. The relevance of these definitions to epidemiological and population dynamics models is emphasized. Statistical modelling techniques for encounter-related processes are explored. A case study illustrates the application of these models to real data, showcasing statistical tools for inference and prediction of encounters, and serving as a foundation for future research.
