Apologies for cross-posting:
-------------------------------------
This is to announce that Tim Hanson and Alejandro Jara will give a version of their course on Bayesian nonparametrics at EPFL in the week of
October 4-8 2010.
Bayesian nonparametrics has been a very active area of research in recent years, and has strong connections to interesting
topics in applied probability as well as many important statistical applications, for example (but not only) in biostatistics and genomics. It is likely to be used increasingly
in future years, but at present there is little systematic material available on the subject. This is therefore an excellent opportunity to find out about it.
The full arrangements are yet to be settled, but it will be a course of 20 hours of lectures and 10 of exercises, covering both theoretical and practical topics
(including computer exercises) worth 2 credits for those in CUSO doctoral schools. The synopsis for a shorter version of the same course can be found at
http://med.kuleuven.be/biostat/IAP2009/NPBayes_course.pdf
Further details will follow, but if you are interested, put this event in your diary now. Attendance at the course is free for those in Swiss academia.
