The Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM), University of Bern, employs over 130 staff, provides undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and carries out research in a range of disciplines relevant to clinical epidemiology and public health.
We are looking for a
Biostatistician (80% to 100%) in paediatric respiratory medicine
You will collaborate with epidemiologists, clinicians, PhD students and statisticians in research on respiratory health of children. You will analyse data from population-based and clinical cohort studies and registries, such as a European study on children with the rare disease Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) and the Leicester cohort studies (http://www.leicestercohorts.org/).
Main tasks:
* Perform individual patient meta-analyses on >1000 patients with PCD, providing novel and representative data on disease severity and phenotypes, growth, lung function and long-term prognosis.
* Analyse data from population-based cohort studies to determine risk factors and prognosis of chronic cough and asthma in children.
* Contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences
* Support PhD students in statistical analyses
Requirements:
* PhD or Master level qualification in biostatistics or related field
* At least 3 years experience in statistical analysis, particularly in regression modelling of time-to-event and continuous data. Experience in meta-analysis and latent-class analysis would be an asset.
* Strong statistical programming skills with experience in Stata or R.
* Strong organizational skills and ability to work efficiently in several parallel projects, delivering results within planned timelines.
* Ability to work independently and interact with interdisciplinary teams. Ability to communicate statistical methods and results to non-statisticians..
* A strong interest in applied research
* Excellent knowledge of English (German and French are an advantage)
The post is available immediately, with negotiable date of start and offered for 2 years initially. Salary depends on qualification and experience.
